What We Do For You

Epicodus offers a comprehensive career services curriculum you’ll go through while you’re learning to code to make sure you’re set up for success after you graduate. Below, you can check out what to expect throughout the program.

Mentor Program Early in your time at Epicodus, you will have the opportunity to sign up to be matched with a peer mentor. Your mentor will help you stay on track with your coding goals and share tips and tricks through regular lunchtime check-ins during the first half of the program. Together, you can work on career prep skills, whiteboarding, and they can provide peer support as you navigate the highs and lows of the program. By the time you become an upper cohort student, you’ll have the opportunity to support new Epicodus students becoming a peer mentor yourself!

LinkedIn Profile You will have time in class to create or update your LinkedIn profile to set you up for success in the tech industry. After creating your LinkedIn profile, you’ll meet with your cohort’s advisor to go over your LinkedIn profile.

Mock Interview Sometime during this period, you will be scheduled for your first mock interview. This will include both technical and non-technical questions, and will be a great opportunity to sharpen your interview skills before your internship interviews with actual companies.

Resume and Cover Letter Day in Class You will have a day of in-class time this week dedicated to writing a cover letter and resume, cleaning up your GitHub portfolio, and practicing interview questions.

During this week, your advisor will also go over what to expect in the coming weeks in regards to internships.

Resume and Cover Letter Reviews Much like your LinkedIn profile, your advisor will meet with you to go over your resume and cover letter.

Job Board Profiles Towards the end of class, you will have time in class to create profiles on Indeed as well as our internal job board.

Second Mock Interview During these weeks, there will be a second round of mock interviews to help everyone get ready for internships and their job hunt.

Job Applications Once you have completed your job board profiles, there will be time set aside during class to apply for jobs. Your advisor will be available to help you send out the best possible material!

Technical Interviews You will get the chance to practice a technical whiteboard interview with your peers. Students will do technical whiteboard interviews in groups of four. One person will be interviewed at a time while the other students act as interviewers.

Job Search Bootcamp We find that graduates having a schedule they keep to makes a significant difference for job seeking success! To help get you off on the right foot, if you don’t have a job lined up after graduation, you will be expected to come in for a job search bootcamp. We’ll use this time to hone your application skills and make sure you’ve got time set aside to keep coding, whether it’s to explore new projects or to build on existing ones.

Internships

After completing their classwork, Epicodus facilitates internships for its students in the full-time program. You’ll get the opportunity to interview with companies and be matched based on company and student preferences to get some real world experience. Students in the part-time program choose either to join the full-time internship program or work with their advisor to coordinate an internship for themselves that meets their needs.

Job Search

Our staff check job boards daily to find appropriate positions for our alumni, and share them on our internal job boards. We also reach out to local companies to find jobs that aren't posted online. Your advisor will continue to check in with you regularly after you graduate for up to a year to be a support as you look for your first job in the industry.
